The design, which is located in the forested area next to the Iztuzu beach between the sea and a natural dive, which is the natural spawning area of caretta caretta sea turtles near the Dalyan town of Muğla’s Ortaca district, strives to approach the habitat in the most sensitive and correct way due to its location in a natural area that is unique in the world.
The ecological complex, which includes a turtle hospital, research offices, a museum, a day facility and staff units, is articulated with a biomimetic approach that maintains the textures of nature in its structure and formal elements with minimal interventions and tries to make it experienced in the best way.
The buildings, which are raised from the ground with minimal intervention on the ground, are clustered around the courtyards, which are diversified according to the functions by infiltrating the shadow areas between the trees in order to avoid the effects of the hot climate, to be articulated and camouflaged, and to be connected to each other with eaves and floors in order to take the wind well and face the view.
The ecological chimneys in the buildings absorb the prevailing wind, allow the heated air to escape and at the same time provide controlled light intake.
With these and many other ideas, the design is shaped according to criteria such as sustainability, passive air conditioning, naturalness, ecological design, negative carbon footprint, sun, wind, functionality.
