Mosaic is achieved by creating a meaningful and aesthetic visual whole by combining small pieces of different colors side by side.
This concept was the inspiration for the project; It prompted us to think about the richness of the collective whole that can be formed by the coming together of the potentials of individual subjects and to make this the founding element of the design.
As individuals living in a society, we all have different identities and different practices of subjectification. Each of us needs to exist as unique subjects and live with each other in an egalitarian, sharing, respectful and fair environment. We believe that only in this way can we live together as free and happy subjects of a meaningful whole.
Design; It aims to imagine a space to enable individual subjects to reach collective opinions and consensus, taking into account their diversity and freedom, to engage in new searches in architecture on democratic grounds, and to open a new door to liberating architectural practice.
The project tries to integrate the square design, which maintains traces of urban memory, by preserving it. In this context, it opens a passage from the existing square to itself to increase pedestrian passage. It aims to transform Konak Square, which has lost its original character over time and been reduced to a transitional square, from a transitional space into a meeting, gathering and interaction place with multi-purpose, flexible public use scenarios in the building and its surroundings.
The building is positioned as close as possible to the square in order to define the scale of the square as much as possible. The building size has been kept in a balance that will not exceed the historical buildings in the surrounding area, will approach the human scale and at the same time will define the square as much as possible.
The surroundings of the building are designed as a multi-purpose space consisting of a hard floor that supports multi-purpose and flexible use within its structure and allows it to be flooded when necessary. The outer perimeter of this space has been designed as a pool, rest niches and green areas to continue the green texture around the square and along the beach.
The large and closed top cover, which receives light from the hole in the middle, overhangs and sunshading facade elements protect the building from adverse insolation conditions.
The observation terrace under the eaves on the top floor of the building is used as a multi-purpose place overlooking the beautiful sunsets of Izmir.
