BLENDING THE PAST AND FUTURE
The design seeks to interpret the heritage Medina has inherited from the past, translating it into the future while creating an oasis effect specific to its location.
Using materials unique to Medina, such as stone, wood, and plaster, along with motifs, courtyards, arches, arcades, pools, facade elements, projections, and proportions found in local buildings, the design is reinterpreted and complemented by local vegetation. In doing so, it aims to become the modern and innovative face of Medina, embodying its distinctive identity.
BUILDING MASS DESIGN
The design consists of two blocks on either side of a central courtyard. These blocks are connected by a lobby on the ground floor, a pool terrace on the top floor, and corridors on the intermediate floors. This layout choice allows for a higher number of rooms to be accommodated on a single floor, and these rooms overlook exterior pathways and the courtyard, rather than facing potential future buildings on adjacent plots.
To bring the imposing scale of the 8-story building closer to a human scale, the mass is fragmented through architectural movements such as projections, setbacks, and gradations. This approach imparts a sensation of smaller buildings stacked on top of each other within the design.
Local green vegetation is adapted onto the terraces of the fragmented mass, creating an oasis effect.
Materials, colors, and elements unique to Medina, such as stone, wood, and plaster, along with motifs, courtyards, arches, pools, facade features, projections, and proportions found in local buildings, are reinterpreted and integrated into the facade.
ROOM AND SUIT PLACEMENT – DIRECTIONS
The building houses a total of 72 hotel units. Among these, 15 are designed as suites, while 57 are designed as standard hotel rooms. On average, there are 12 units per floor. Out of these units, 8 face the street and the alley, while 4 units face the courtyard. This ensures that none of the units have a view of potential future buildings on neighboring plots.
FUNCTION DISTRIBUTION
Common areas in the building are distributed on the ground floor, the 7th floor, and the rooftop, which is the 8th floor.
On the rooftop, due to better sky visibility, panoramic views, and wind conditions, the functions of a restaurant and a spa are situated around the swimming pool. These areas are designed to offer a scenic view. On the 7th floor, these functions continue, and technical spaces and service units specific to them are present.
The ground floor welcomes customers with a beautiful courtyard featuring a pool and an arcade at the entrance. Customers then proceed to the reception and lobby area located at the junction of the two buildings. Additionally, this floor contains amenities such as a cafe serving the lobby and courtyard, a multipurpose hall, management units, public restrooms, a laundry room, and the entrance to the parking area.
The parking area, efficiently resolved across the entire plot, accommodates up to 48 vehicles. An additional 12 outdoor parking spaces have also been allocated. If required, the design can be extended to include a basement level to further increase parking capacity.
FLEXIBLE FACADE ELEMENTS
Sun shading facade elements can be adjusted to open or close based on the position of the sun throughout different times of the day, the quality of the light, or the desire for specific landscape views.
