The building located next to the Valens Arch and the Şehzadebaşı Kulliye (social complex) in the Vefa district of Istanbul Fatih; It houses units such as work areas, a library, workshops, a multi-purpose hall and a cafe. Surrounding a flexible, amphitheater, it leads to the Valens Arch and the Şehzadebaşı Kulliye. It forms semi-open terraces by cascading in parts that approach historical buildings.
Design; At the same time, it aims to ensure the flow of the currently disconnected Vefa District – Şehzade Kulliye and to use the Şehzade Kulliye as a more active socio-cultural center as it was in the past.
Şehzade Street, which connects Vefa and Şehzadebaşı Kulliye, was purged of idle buildings and supported by a student life center and multifunctional modular flexible units and articulated to the complex. Thus, the flow and movement in Vefa gains continuity along this street and reaches the kulliye units, courtyard and mosque, which are re-functionalized according to today’s needs.
In design; Preferences such as modular spatial and structural setup, organization with courtyards, semi-open spaces, stone and wooden materials aim to establish the relationship of traditional kulliye architecture with the current one.
