TİSAN SUMMER HOUSES
Located on a hillside overlooking Tisan Bay in Silifke, Mersin, this residential project features a 161-unit summer settlement comprising both apartment blocks and detached villas with private pools. The primary architectural methodology focuses on integrating the built environment with the landscape through the analysis of wind, sun, and topography, utilizing passive climate control and local materiality. The challenges of high-density housing are addressed through strategic massing, terracing, and material articulation, effectively reducing the perceived scale to a human-centric level.
The settlement layout is organized parallel to the slope in a staggered configuration to ensure unobstructed vistas. The first two rows on the seaward side are dedicated to duplexes and detached houses, while the following three rows consist of apartment blocks. To maximize visual efficiency, the building heights increase progressively from 2 to 4 stories toward the rear, creating a stepped silhouette. The plan diagram utilizes hybrid schemes that balance spatial efficiency with maximum view exposure. Massing is fragmented both horizontally and vertically through varying projections, terraces, and canopies, disrupting the monotonous block effect and establishing a light, rhythmic architectural language.
The façade design blends vernacular Mediterranean materials—such as stone, timber, and light-toned plasters—with contemporary elements like expansive glazing and colored aluminum joinery. To mitigate the intense solar heat, sliding wooden panels, and extensive terrace canopies are integrated as passive cooling strategies. Corner windows are strategically positioned to capture panoramic diagonal views of the surrounding bays. Landscape interventions, including partial green roofs and tree-lined streets, ensure the built fabric permeates the natural silhouette. Communal terraces and dedicated social zones facilitate collective living, offering expansive vistas and functional gathering spaces for all residents.
