FAIRLAWN TOWNHOUSE
This townhouse settlement proposes a living scheme rooted in nature, emphasizing healthy and modern environments through enhanced interaction with the landscape. The project consists of 23 human-scale units oriented toward the southeast, encircling a high-quality communal garden designed for optimal sunlight. This spatial arrangement creates a microclimatic buffer, shielding the common areas from prevailing cold winds. The green texture of the central garden flows seamlessly into private gardens, terraces, and balconies, penetrating the interior spaces through expansive glazing.
A commitment to human-scale architecture is central to the design, with a maximum height of three stories to ensure that the built form does not overpower the natural surroundings. The community center, serving as the social hub, is accessed via a transparent, green-roofed entrance and is strategically solved on the basement level. This subterranean approach preserves the integrity of the garden area while maintaining the landscape’s natural feel. The massing and façade design utilize varying house types, roof movements, and balcony-terrace articulations to disrupt the repetitive block effect typical of row housing. Through three standard plan types, five distinct façade variations were developed, achieving a customized architectural language.
The material palette—comprising multi-colored brick, timber textures, and green natural stone—complements the nature-centric ethos of the settlement. Vehicular circulation is confined to a one-way perimeter loop, isolating the central garden from traffic noise and pollution. In addition to dedicated parking for each unit, an outdoor capacity is provided for guests, ensuring that infrastructure meets functional needs without compromising the pedestrian-oriented landscape continuity.
