FRANKFORT HOUSING

Designed to harmonize with the historic fabric of Frankfort, this project redefines luxurious lakeside living through a fragmented mass composition at a human scale. The primary motivation is to blend classical local elements with a modern modular system, creating a residence that respects its context while establishing a distinct architectural identity.

To avoid a monolithic block effect, 12-foot-wide modular units are utilized in varying lengths, creating dynamic cantilevers and roof movements. These setbacks, eaves, and terraces do not just provide visual rhythm; they offer diverse spatial experiences oriented toward Betsie Lake. The planning features a defined courtyard to optimize lake views, integrating 108 housing units, commercial spaces, and an 82-vehicle parking facility. Ground-floor residences feature private verandas and gardens, allowing for an intimate connection with the shoreline.

The project’s coastal design is integrated with a future marina and a continuous pedestrian line, ensuring fluid circulation along the water. Open and semi-open spaces along the shore are supported by strategic landscaping that preserves the view while enhancing the “nature interaction” goal. Designed as a separate entity, the restaurant unit serves as the social heart of the site. With its half-covered upper floor and dual entrances, it offers customers varied perspectives of the lake and marina, bridging Frankfort’s town life with contemporary waterfront luxury.
