MOZAIK IZMIR

Inspired by the mosaic concept—where distinct pieces form a meaningful whole—this project transforms Izmir’s Konak Square into a democratic hub for collective interaction. The primary motivation is to revitalize the square, moving it beyond a mere transit point to a place of encounter, gathering, and democratic expression.

The building is strategically positioned to define the square’s scale while respecting the surrounding historical context and human scale. Pedestrian flow is invited deep into the site through passages that connect with the urban memory of the area. The surrounding landscape features a multi-purpose hardscape, ornamental pools, and rest niches that seamlessly blend with the city’s coastal green texture.

The architectural language responds directly to Izmir’s climate. A large cantilevered roof with a central light well, combined with sun-shading facade elements, protects the interior from intense solar gain. On the top floor, an observation terrace sheltered by the eaves offers a public vantage point for Izmir’s iconic sunsets. By prioritizing flexible use and urban continuity, the Mosaic project establishes a liberating architectural space that celebrates diversity and shared experience.
